Playing Tennis Safely Guidelines

LAST REVIEWED 12/03/2021

Giifnock Tennis Club Glasgow

As Covid-19 restrictions continue, we remind our members about the additional rules to play tennis safely. Please keep checking this guidance and Tennis Scotland Summary Grid by Protection Levels.

The key points are:

  • You must book a court in advance to play and record all players who will be on the court with you. You cannot use a court without booking even if it is free. This is part of the “test and protect” provisions that are in place across Scotland. If playing with a “guest”, please put this on the court booking system and email the name of your guest, along with date, time and court number, to booking@giffnock-ltc.co.uk.
  • Please leave the court 5-10 minutes before the end time to help ensure social distancing off court.
  • You must wash your hands or use the hand sanitiser provided before entering court and when leaving court.
  • Please avoid touching common surfaces such as doors and nets. Bags should be placed at the back of court and not in the middle by the net.
  • When playing outdoors, adults and children aged over 12 must physically distance before, during and after activity.
Children aged 11 years and younger are not required to physically distance from each other but should physically distance from those age 12 and older and specifically from coaches.
  • No spectating should take place. Where attendance of a parent/guardian (non-participant) is required, or a carer for a disabled player, it is permitted and is not counted as part of the group activity, but should be off court and limited to one per player where possible, with physical distancing strictly observed while watching the sessions.

Full rules can be found on Tennis Scotland website: Tennis Scotland Guidance. We are all relying on each other to be allowed to continue to play so it is essential that you familiarise yourself with the rules before you come down to the club to play.

Following the implementation of the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 protection levels, Tennis Scotland has developed a Tennis Scotland Summary Grid by Protection Levels that follows the Government’s framework and explains what can and can’t happen at each Level.

Clubhouse

Toilets are open for members’ use provided all procedures are adhered to.  The rest of the clubhouse, including changing rooms, water cooler and vending machine, remain strictly off limits.  To access the toilets you will need to have your door entry card with you.  Simply swipe this in the BACK DOOR reader and then access the toilets using our touch free button located next to the relevant door.  The taps are also automated.  Use the touch free buttons to exit toilets and clubhouse.

From 31st August changing rooms may be used for people living with a disability, any special need or in an exceptional circumstance such as injury or unsafe playing environment.

Our First Aid Kit and Defibrillator are located in the main corridor next to the bag rack (now in a dedicated cabinet).  In an emergency you can access these important pieces of equipment by swiping your door entry card in the BACK DOOR card reader to gain access to the clubhouse.

Court Booking

Court booking is available to all tennis members. You must book a court in order to play, you cannot use a court without booking even if it is free.

The policy for court booking during this phase will be as follows:

  • Court booking is charged £0.25 per half hour during peak times (6-9pm Monday to Thursday) and is free the rest of the time
  • You can only book a 1-hour slot in advance. If there are free courts on the day of booking, the same group of people may book an extra 1/2 hour. Bookings longer than 1.5 hours for the same group of people are not permitted at this time.
  • Courts can be booked 6 days in advance (Juniors and Student members can only book during the day 6 days in advance or 2 days in advance for peak times)
  • Minis can only book mini courts
  • Guest Policy: Members can have a maximum of 12 visitors in any membership year. The same guest can only play once in any calendar month and no more than 4 times per year.

Coaching

Our tennis coaching programme is still on with classes available for both adults and children. Coaching is only open to the members of the Club.

You can also contact any of the coaches to arrange private lessons.
